A spike in number of confirmed cases

Ghana records a total number of five hundred and sixty six (566) confirmed cases on Covid-19  – Despite Media reports. According to the report, the new regions reported to have confirmed cases of the coronavirus are the Western and the Volta Regions. Adding up to a previous number of eight (8) regions, Ghana now stands at ten (10) regions total. These regions are : Greater Accra, Ashanti, Central, Eastern, Western, Volta, Northern, North east, Upper East and Upper West regions.

Statistics have it that the spike in total number of confirmed cases is as a result of the ongoing surveillance exercise. Moreover, figures show that Ghana has recorded 37,954 tests as at 11th April 2020 . Out of which 566 allegedly confirm the coronavirus.

Extension of lock down

Meanwhile, the President of the 4th Republic of Ghana extends lockdown by one more week. His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo made it pretty clear in his 6th address to the nation on 9th April,2020. Later reports after that also show another two-week extension on public gatherings lockdown to enhance social distancing.

The Ghana Health Service and other health authoritarians have already expressed deep concerns on helping the nation in such pandemic crisis. Advises are that :

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and under running water.
  • And make sure you keep practicing social distancing to help mitigate the spread of the deadly virus.
  • No public gatherings, no movements in Accra and Kumasi

Allegations are that looking at the rising number, Ghana may opt for lockdowns in other regions as well. This however has not yet been put into effect as we await the next address of His Excellency.

Conclusively in not forgetting the President’s remark on the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic : “This too, shall pass” – Stay Home and Stay Safe.
