The department under the Ghana Police Service,Motor Traffic & Transport Department has announced the closure of some major roads in the capital city, Accra on Tuesday, September 15, as leaders of the ECOWAS visit to have a meeting at the Peduase Lodge.
According to Superintendent Sasu Mensah of the MTTD, the closure of roads is to ensure a safe and secure journey devoid of any traffic delay that will disturb the smooth passage of the diplomats while they visit.
The roads that will be closed temporarily on Tuesday will be:
1.The Kotoka International Airport to the Liberation Road at Opeibea
2.The airport bypass to Giffard Road through to the Liberation Road
3.Kempinski hotel to the National Theater on the Independence avenue
4.Liberation Road through to N4 to Peduase Lodge
5.Liberation Road from 37 to Obasanjo Street, Tang Palace Hotel
6.Independence Avenue to Ako-Adjei.
Superintendent Sasu Mensah then again cautioned the general public to adhere to the traffic regulations. He also stated that, “Motorist should park on the right when they see the convoy approaching and any inconvenience caused is deeply be regretted”
This is because,President Akufo-Addo as the newly elected Chairman of ECOWAS will be hosting the leaders, as such, Ghana has to facilitate their ease of movement and other diplomatic obligations.
