Council of elders for the family of the late Jaami Imam of Wa have rejected a ¢20,000 funeral donation from the vice president.
They(the family) said the intended purpose of the money had already been served. A statement from the council stated,” We the elders of the family wish to state that, the donation though well-intentioned is belated as the the final funeral rites have already been performed.”
The donation of ¢20,000, according to the family came through the governing party’s Wa Central constituency chairman instead of the Veep himself of which they termed as unethical.
The late Imam’s family also raised concerns over the failure of the Vice President to intervene in their affairs when the Imam called on the presidency. The matter was that, he was being prevented from performing his religious duties at the Central Mosque by the Upper West Regional Minister, Hafiz Bin Salih.
Although the family rejected the donation, they expressed appreciation for the kind gesture.
