A report from the New York Times states that earlier this morning, the Trump administration has announced an almost $2 billion contract with a pharmaceutical company named Pfizer based in the US and a smaller German biotechnology company to produce more than 500 million doses of a Covid-19 vaccine. Hence, the two companies will manufacture the first 100 million doses by December this year.
But according to terms of agreement, the federal government would be given the first 100 million doses for $1.95 billion to gain up to 500 million more, next year. And further made mention of America to receive the vaccine without paying anything. But unless it is urgently approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), it can not be distributed.
“Large-scale safety trials are to begin this month, with regulatory review set for as early as October.” – The New York Times
